Triftbahn

Information about the Triftbahn

The Triftbahn will be completely renovated from autumn 2024 to early summer 2025. The KWO is investing CHF 4.5 million for this and is supporting soft tourism in the Gadmental with this project.

Over a deep gorge into the Trift region

The 10-minute ride takes you over the Triftwasser river and up to the starting point for the 1.5-hours hike to the highlight of the Trift region – the Trift bridge.

Other hiking destinations in the region include the Windegghütte SAC, Trifthütte SAC and the route over the Furtwangsattel to Guttannen.

Temperatures and weather conditions in the mountains can change rapidly.

We recommend sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing. The mountain trails require sure-footedness and a head for heights.

Physical prerequisite

The Triftbahn is only accessible via stairs and is thus not suitable for wheelchairs or prams.

Meals and refreshments

There is a small bistro at the Triftbahn’s mountain station. At the Trift Bridge there are no catering offers so ensure that you take sufficient food and drink with you.

Capacity

8 passengers per journey

We strongly recommend reserving your seats online

Dogs

Dogs are permitted on the Triftbahn. Small (lap)dogs travel free of charge, but dogs with a shoulder height of 30cm or above are charged at the child fare.

Hike to the trift hut (trifthütte) closed

Because of the big avalanche damages, the Trift hut (Trifthütte) will remain closed all year round until further notice.

Until the hut is reopened, the trail to the Trifthütte is not maintained or secured. The bridges and chains on the summer trail have been dismantled.

The hiking trail to and over the Triftbrücke is still accessible without any problems.
