The Grimsel Hospiz will remain closed to the public during the winter season 2024/25

During the winter of 2024/25, important and substantial work will take place on Lake Grimsel at the major construction site for the replacement of the Spitallamm dam – located directly next to the Grimsel Hospiz. The hotel rooms at the Grimsel Hospiz and the restaurant will then be needed by employees from KWO and other companies. Due to the construction works, more disruption and noise than is normal during the winter can also be expected. As a result, the hotel will unfortunately not be open to guests during the winter season 2024/25. Thank you for your understanding.

A winter oasis

At the Hotel Grimsel Hospiz, the past and present meet in perfect harmony. This was the first Swiss hotel to be mentioned in official documents way back in 1142. It made headlines in 1932 as the first hotel in Europe to feature electric heating. This environmentally sound approach was also followed during the extensive renovation of the hotel from 2008 to 2010, with the entire hotel now heated using environmentally friendly waste heat from electricity production. This is something that is embedded in the local region, with the historic four-star alpine hotel sitting majestically above Lake Grimsel in the heart of “KWO country”.

Winter at the Grimsel Hospiz is all about winding down and relaxing. Nestled deep in the snow, the historic building is a treasure in these unspoilt natural surroundings. Guests can already leave behind the stresses and strains of everyday life during their unique journey to the hotel – an aerial cableway trip running through deep tunnels. The hotel features a welcoming atmosphere, with a crackling fireplace and steaming hot tub under a magnificent starry sky awaiting guests.
